This ice fishing trip will offer you an introduction to the exciting world of winter fishing. The destination is a lake in the middle of Lapland’s pristine nature located outside all the buzz and noise. During the trip we will get to know winter fishing and enjoy the silence of nature.
We will first take a car to the starting point and then continue towards the lake with gliding snowshoes. Gliding snowshoes combine the best features of skis and traditional snowshoes. Gliding snowshoes are agile, faster than snowshoes and more practical than forest skis. Once we have reached the lake, I will teach you the basics of winter fishing and we will start ice fishing.
During the trip, we will also enjoy delicious lunch and if we are lucky with fishing, prepare the catch by an open fire.
During the day, we will travel about 6km with gliding snowshoes. The trip does not require a top physical condition and is therefore very suitable for all sorts of trekkers from children to more mature. During the trip, you will hear stories about the surrounding nature and fishing in general.
In Lapland, the weather conditions can change from warm spring sun to cold north wind very quickly. Therefore, we must be prepared accordingly. I will gladly give you more instructions about the trip as well as about the gear.
Gliding snowshoes, poles, ice fishing gear, an ice auger, food and drinks.
The trip includes transport in the Ylläs region. We will pick you up from your accommodation and return to you the same place at the end of the day.
Please, do not hesitate to contact me, if you have any questions about the trek, gear or anything else.

My Company provide guided tours in Ylläs
with same Wilderness Guide
My name is Jussi Pusa and I am your guide in all the trips. I have several years of experience of outdoors in the Finnish, Swedish and Norwegian Lapland. I have been enjoying the outdoors since I was a child. Wilderness is a passion for me, and therefore I wish to spend the rest of my life near nature and help other people to enjoy the silence and diversity of the wild. In the great outdoors, I have time to rest and breath and really see what is going on around me. In other words, to stop.
During the summer of 2018 I travelled alone across the eight most isolated and northern wilderness areas in Finland. It took me 36 days to cover 750 km. During this trek I saw and experienced a great deal, also about myself. I wish to teach about these experiences and lessons-learnt to other people during these trips.
